Pizzacity, pizzas, types available, frozen Pizzas are a popular fast food in most major cities in the world. Originally, pizzas were made in Italy. A pizza usually consists of an oven baked bread covered with tomato sauce, cheese and other toppings. Most pizzas are round in shape. Depending on the diameter of the pizza, it is classified as small, medium and large. Depending on where the pizza is prepared and eaten, the manufacturing process for the pizza may vary. The crust is the bread base of the pizza, and its thickness may vary depending on the type of the pizza. In hand tossed pizzas, the crust is thin, but in pan pizzas the crust is thicker. At homes, pizzas are usually heated in a pan or baked in an oven. Some pizzas can be heated on a grill. Pizzas are available in supermarkets as a frozen food, with corn starch used as a moisture barrier to prevent the crust and sauce combining when heated. Prepared pizzas made from raw ingredients are also available, which can be heated in a microwave or oven. Many grocery shops stock just the crust or pizza base, which may be cheaper by about twenty times than pizzas ordered from restaurant chains. Sauce, cheese and other toppings can be added to the pizza base as required. Herbs, vegetables, seafood, meat and mushrooms are some popular pizza toppings. Since most pizzas have a cheese topping, they have a high calorie count. In restaurants, pizzas may be baked on a wood fired coal oven, a gas canister oven, conveyor belt oven or electric deck oven. This equipment is expensive. Many restaurants offer home delivery of pizzas in surrounding areas (in cities) at no additional cost. |
